Ultra & Marathon Swim

WORLD'S HARDEST, LONGEST, TOUGHEST EXTREME SWIMS

Heroes and the Tagus

Swimming from the Tagus to Cascais since 1906, these crossings recall the heroes from the past.

The Tagus River originates in Spain and flows into the Atlantic Ocean at the Bugio Lighthouse area, the limit of the estuary. The “estuary corridor” is about 4 km wide and 40 metres deep. In this channel, the speed of the flow can reach 2 m/s (7.2 km per hour). At the end of the channel, next to the sea, the speed is usually over 1.5 m/s (5.4 km/h) and can reach 2.5 (9 km/h) at high tides.
